Healthy Air-Fried Falafel Wrap

Try this healthy, low oil, air-fried, easy-to-make falafel recipe. Serve the falafel rolled in pita bread garnished with hummus & tahini sauce & tomato.

Ingredients

Falafel
  • 1 cup (225 gms) dried chickpeas, soaked, drained and rinsed
  • 1 cup Parsley, roughly chopped
  • 1 cup coriander
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • ½ teaspoon coriander power
  • ½ teaspoon red chilli powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 small onion, roughly chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons flour, any
  • Salt to taste
Salad
  • 1 ½ tablespoon olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 small cucumber, finely chopped
  • 1 small tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 ½ cup mixed greens, finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
Tahini Sauce
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 ½ tablespoon tahini paste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Wraps
  • 6 Pita Breads

Instructions

Falafel
  1. In a bowl add parsley, coriander, onion, garlic, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, baking powder, flour & salt to chickpeas. Blend the mixture well taking care not to make too runny.
  2. Transfer the falafel mixture in a large bowl, cover it with cling wrap and refrigerate it for 1-2 hours or overnight.
  3. Remove the falafel mixture from the refrigerator. Shape the mixture into disc shape. The mixture should yield about 18-20 falafel.
  4. Grease the air-fryer basket with a dash of oil. Place about 8 falafel in the basket. Brush the falafel in the basket with oil.
  5. Cook at 170°C for 20 mins. Flip the falafel halfway through cooking, brush the flipped side with a dash of oil. 
  6. Remove the falafel once they turn golden brown on both sides and place them on a plate.
Salad
  1. In a medium sized bowl mix cucumber, tomato and mixed greens. For the dressing, in a small bowl mix olive oil, black pepper, lemon juice and salt.
  2. Pour the dressing over the salad and mix well.
Tahini Sauce
  1. Mix the yogurt, tahini paste and lemon juice. Sprinkle some chopped parsley over it.
Wrap
  1. Warm the pita bread on both the sides, until fluffy.
  2. Spread a tablespoon hummus and salad.
  3. Add the falafel, drizzle some tahini sauce and wrap it.
  4. Serve hot!

Tips:

• Do not used canned chickpeas as it will make the batter runny. • If your batter doesn't hold together add some more flour to it. • Make sure to refrigerate the batter for at-least one hour. • You can also pan-fry, deep fry or oven bake the falafel.
